'Politics not for the ungodly' —Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday, declared that politics was not meant  for ungodly people, dismissing argument that Christians should not be in politics and urged  Nigerians to  fear  God and be in politics to correct the ills in the society.
The former President  who eulogised Rev. Dr. S.T Ola Akande for joining politics said: “One of the beliefs in some quarters is true Christians should not be in politics but it is a fallacy.Obasanjo spoke at the special thanksgiving to mark the fifth anniversary of the Chapel of Christ the Glorious King, CCGC, a religious arm of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, Abeokuta.
“If will allow this to be, we shall be having ungodly people and this should not be because if you refuse to participate in politics, bad people will dominate it. We must encourage Christians, those God have accepted, to be in politics, or else, what we will be witnessing will not be good.

Politics and money
“One of the early things I learnt in politics is that it requires money. Not money for bribe but for what is called genuine administration.
“Some of the people who will come will need money for transportation. When they came to me, I told them that I do not have money. But, they said  if I have had money, may be they would not have come to  me.
“I soon realised how I will raise money for transportation, so I started visiting people in the morning and evening and that was how we made it.”

Mystery about Obasanjo
In his sermon, Ola Akande noted that  he noticed a mystery about Obasanjo, saying; “This is a special man that God has given to contemporary Nigerian generation.
‘You all know that God has granted him many victories in life. So, the building of such a chapel is indeed an expression of praise and thanksgiving to Christ the glorious King.
The cleric said: “So to you, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, I say well done. May God continue to grant you more of His grace in Jesus name.”
He took a swipe at the current politics ahead of the 2015 general elections, observing that; “Defections and counter defections from one party to another are rubbing  us of our sleep.
“We wish you all success in your search for argurion, the Greek word for money.
“I expect that, from now on, many hungry men and women will be trailing you in hope of being fed with your votes-for-me gift after which you will abandon them and start to be taking care of yourselves alone with your constituency allowances,“ he added.
