Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers or maybe terrorist, yesterday unleashed terror in Onitsha, Anambra State, as they kidnapped a woman and her son, shooting sporadically.
The incident which happened at Enugu Park, along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in the commercial city left many with bullet wounds.
The woman and her son whose identities are yet to be ascertained were said to be travelling in a black Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) when the gunmen intercepted and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
The gunmen who came in two cars were armed with AK47 rifles and other dangerous weapons which they used in throwing the entire neighbourhood into confusion and they zoomed off immediately they had their target.
According to source who pleaded anonymity, a man was hit in the leg by a bullet and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"The shots were so many that travellers including policemen accompanying a bullion van had to stop," the source said.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, said he was yet to get information on the incident.
He added that he was making efforts to get the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Awada Police Station in whose jurisdiction the incident occurred.
