According to THIS DAY Newspaper, Mr. Laasan Baba, the State Director of the DSS, who paraded the suspects, complained that the boys killed the Chief without any apparent motive.
According to Baba,
preliminary investigation showed that the six people arrested, shot the Chief
during a failed robbery operation, even though the boys confessed that they had
made up their minds to kill anyone they encountered that day.
The leader of the group
confirmed this on Wednesday while he was questioned by newsmen.
The suspects are Freedom
Allen, 27; Kurotimi Clarkson Okilo alias Oyoyo, 27; Simeon Macaulay Imiete, 21,
all from Bayelsa State.
Others involved are
Abubakar Ibrahim, 24, from Kano; Maharaza Sallau, 20, from Plateau State and
Salisu Haladu, 24, from Katsina State who was arrested following an established
trace on the GSM phone of the deceased.
The stolen phone which was
passed from one and to another was bought by Simeon Macaulay who buys and sells
stolen GSM phones.
According to the DSS,
Freedom Allen shot the Chief in the head with a locally made pistol.
“Investigation revealed
that on October 10, 2014, between 4pm and 8pm, at Biogbolo Community School,
Freedom Allen, Kurotimi Clarkson Okilo and one Ebi alias Omega still at large
conspired to carry out robbery activities to get money for their personal
needs.”
“At about 8pm on that day,
they board a commercial tricycle popularly known as Keke from Biogbolo to
Otiotio road to find a victim to rob. According to them, the choice of Otiotio
was informed by their perception that the area is inhabited by rich persons.”
The DSS boss said the
suspected killers, on sighting the Chief’s car, blocked him at his house gate
and collected his GSM phone, “the deceased BSIEC scribed grabbed Omega a member
of the gang who was holding a pistol and began to struggle with him. Allen
collected the gun from Omega and shot the victim in the head.”
The man died
on the spot, while his killers escaped until they were arrested.
