Nigerians are
getting ready for the upcoming elections set for next month, the two major
political parties in Nigeria, All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), have been trying different ways to get the attention of
Nigerians.
While the campaign rallies in the various states have been devoid of issues, the political parties have used the media (mostly the social media) to reach out to young and indeed undecided voters.
While the campaign rallies in the various states have been devoid of issues, the political parties have used the media (mostly the social media) to reach out to young and indeed undecided voters.
Just
recently, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the APC, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo,
started a campaign on micro-blogging site, Twitter, using the hastag
#IHaveDecided to reach out to Nigerians. The professor of law, who has used
various means to reach out to Nigerians in the last few weeks, also created a
website called www.ihavedecided.ng where he has been encouraging Nigerians to
join in the campaign.
The Goodluck
Jonathan campaign organisation has however made the bold move of portraying the
president as a young Nigerian full of energy and strength to face the
challenges of Africa’s biggest economy.
In a recent
video/campaign television commercial, President Jonathan is seen working out in
a gym, playing tennis and having discussions with some members of his cabinet.
The video
which is the creative effort of a group called ‘GoodHouse Nigeria’ is tagged
“Youthful President Jonathan up to the demands of the job”.
