The wife of former Speaker
of Bayelsa State House of Assembly Martha Binabo and her husband is Hon Nestor
Binabo have been kidnapped.
The incident, the latest in
the series of high profile kidnappings in the riverine area, occurred at Agbura
on the outskirts of Yenagoa, the state capital.
The victim, aged 48, was
abducted Monday in front of the company where she is a director, at about
11.30a.m. by five armed men clad in military fatigues.
The gunmen were said to
have lured their victim outside the company’s gate for a talk only to force her
into a waiting car, which drove towards Otuokpoti sand dump.
The getaway car was later
abandoned and set ablaze at Otuokpoti sand dump water front by the gunmen, who
escaped into the creeks with their victim in a waiting speedboat.
Confirming the incident,
Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, said: “On June 29, at
about 11:30a.m., five unknown gunmen dressed in military camouflage, went to
the premises of Seleyibo Multi-Global Co Ltd., at Agbura, in Yenagoa Local
Government Area.
“They called the director
of the company, one Madam Martha Nestor Binabor, aged 48, outside the company’s
gate for a talk.
“They forced her into an
ash-coloured Toyota Camry, registration number unknown, chassis number
JTDBE32K620105302, and drove to Otuokpoti Sand Dump in Ogbia Local Government
Area.
“They set the Toyota Camry
ablaze, took the victim into a waiting speedboat and sped off to an unknown
destination.”
According to Bustwat, the
Marine Police, JTF, anti-kidnapping unit have been alerted and a massive
manhunt launched to rescue the victim and arrest the abductors.
