An abandoned baby was found
in a stroller in Los Angeles, the baby boy is a day old still connected to his
umbilical cord.
The dark-haired baby was
discovered near St Agnes Catholic Church in South Los Angeles at around 12.30pm
on Tuesday by a man and his two children, according to reports.
Authorities have launched a
search for his parents and police are reviewing surveillance footage from the
area to try and track them down.
Investigators think the
baby had been left inside the stroller since Monday. The child has now been
taken to a hospital.
Alex Diaz spotted the
stroller on Monday and decided to investigate when he noticed it again the
following day, KTLA reported.
"Something inside me
just told me to check," he told the TV station.
The baby was wrapped in a
clean blanket, tucked up inside the filthy stroller, he added.
Police said they want to
make sure the baby's mother is safe and find out why the new-born was abandoned
on the street.
California is a safe
surrender state - where parents can turn over new-born babies at fire stations
and hospitals without facing charges.
