On Monday,
September 5, 2015 Lagos Magistrates court in Ikeja sentenced 30 women to six
weeks imprisonment for prostitution.
The suspect
whose addresses were not disclosed and the report were arrested at the Obalende
area of the state around 2 am.
Among them
are: Funmi Olayemi, Damilola Ibrahim, Blessing Emmanuel, Grace Nwaokoro, Anu
Titus, Princess Osu, Cynthian Ozumba, and Chindima Eke, Blessing Winwah,
Rebecca James, Gift James, Bukola Taiwo, Patience Amos, Oyinda Adesewa,
Funmilayo Ajayi, Modinat Bello, Damilola Abiodun, Saki Godwin.
Others
include: Glory Edet, Blessing Okafor, Tope Obatula, Shade Afolabi, Foluke
Kolawole, Tosin Ajayi, Bisi Onanuga, Princess Isaac, Esther Akpan, Cythia Osas,
Joy Osas and Patricia whose surname is unknown, among others.
The accused
were being tried for prostitution and breach of peace.
The
Magistrate, O. Odusanya sentenced the accused to six weeks each with an option
of N10, 000 fined.
Sentencing
them to jail, the magistrate said: “You are hereby sentenced to six weeks
imprisonment with an option of N10, 000 fine each.’’
After the charges were read
to them, the accused pleaded guilty to the offence, and blamed the devil for
being behind their misfortune.
The prosecutor, Femi Alabi
told the court that the accused committed the offence on September 5, 2015 at
Obalende area of Lagos.
He said that the accused paraded
on the street as public nuisance.
“The accused were caught
soliciting for clients, which is against the law of the state,’’ he said.
Alabi explained that the
offence was a breahj of the dictates of Sections 142 of the Criminal Laws of
Lagos State, 2011, and therefore ordered that they be remanded in prison for
six weeks.
