Jimmy "Superfly"
Snuka was charged with manslaughter in the death of Nancy Argentino, who died
in Pennsylvania in 1983 and he was also charged with third-degree murder over
the death of his girlfriend more than 30 years ago.
Lehigh County District
Attorney Jim Martin re-opened an investigation into the case last year after a
report by the Morning Call newspaper revealed the woman’s death had been ruled
a homicide.
A grand jury announced the
results of its investigation into Snuka's alleged role in the 23-year-old's
death on Tuesday.
He was arraigned on the
charges and sent to Lehigh County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Snuka reportedly told
police in 1983 he returned to his hotel room after a wrestling event to find Ms
Argentino gasping for air.
She died the following day
in hospital. An autopsy determined Ms Argentino died of traumatic brain
injuries, the Morning Call report said.
Snuka wrote in his 2012
autobiography that he had nothing to do with Ms Argentino's death, which he
said ruined his life.
But according to the
Morning Call report, the wrestler told at least five people around the time of
her death that he had pushed her earlier that day.
