The PDP senators are said
to be worried that with the confirmation of Amaechi as minister, he would wield
so much influence and power in the politics of his native home state, Rivers,
if a re-run is to be held.
While PDP senators have
allegedly resolved to frustrate the confirmation of former Rivers State
governor, Rotimi Amaechi, their APC counterparts have vowed to ensure that
Amaechi is confirmed.
This is coming as the
report of the Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges
and Public Petitions, on petitions against Amaechi, is to be considered today.
It will be recalled that
the report was, last Thursday, presented during plenary but was not considered
even though Amaechi was screened, where PDP senators refused to ask questions.
The Anyanwu-led committee
deliberated on a petition by a Port Harcourt-based group, Integrity Group, over
alleged fraud by the former governor.
Due to screening and
confirmation of the remaining ministerial nominees, senators of All
Progressives Congress, APC, and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have mapped out
strategies on how to achieve their set goals.
