African-American, Women Leading In Obesity

On obesity, the African-American and Hispanic communities were found to be leading the way in the widening gender gap, according to the study.

The rates for white men and white women remain close.

But for black people, female obesity has hit 57%, compared with 38% for men.

US women are now more seriously overweight than men as the US obesity rate continues to rise, government research shows.

The adult female obesity level is now 38%, compared with 34% for men, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The rate for men and women had been roughly the same for about a decade.

Overall US obesity has climbed to nearly 38% of adults, up from 32% about a decade earlier, said the health agency.

About 43% of less educated Americans smoked last year, compared with just 5% of those with a graduate degree.
