The body of one infant was
found by a woman on Thursday afternoon at the apartment in the Bavarian town of
Wallenfels, near the Czech border, police said, she called police and officers
found more bodies in a room in the flat.
The bodies of seven babies
have been found covered in blankets and packed in plastic bags in a flat, say
German police.
Officers are trying to
trace a 45-year-old woman, believed to be the infants' mother, following the
discovery at a property in southern Germany.
She is thought to be the
tenant of the flat and has been described by a neighbour as a "kind
person".
Other reports said the
infants were discovered by a doctor who had made a call to the property.
Footage showed police outside
a house where a large coffin was placed into a hearse on Thursday evening.
The bodies are being
examined by forensic experts but this "will take some time in view of
their poor condition, in some cases", police said.
The results of the tests
are not expected before the beginning of next week.
Several people are being
questioned by police but they have not managed to find the suspected mother.
Police spokeswoman Anne
Hofer said: "The babies have been found within the apartment. They had
been covered in blankets and were packed in plastic bags.
"That's how the seven
dead bodies have been found one after another."
