Nigeria’s former president Goodluck
Jonathan was alleged to have been trailed by some suspected militants allegedly
working for the All Progressive Congress in the state, according to online
report.
The men, who were alleged to
have intercepted and drove into a short motorcade conveying the former
President from the Julius Berger bridge area of the state capital, trailed and
chased the motorcade to the entrance of the private residence of the former
President at the Kpansia suburb of Yenagoa, before they were overpowered and
arrested by a combined team of security operatives attached to the former
President.
The Bayelsa police command
spokesman, Asimin Butswat said the suspects were not ex militants as rumoured
but persons who mistakenly followed the former President convoy thinking it was
that of their principal.
He said, “our preliminary
investigation showed that these were not ex-militants but boys who mistook the
former President’s convoy for their principal.”
