A rat was spotted running
around the cabin as an Air India flight to London was making its way in the air
to UK but was left with no option but turn back.
A hunt for the creature
began and even though it was not found, the pilot chose to return to Mumbai for
passenger safety, the airline said.
Passengers on the plane,
which had set off from Mumbai, noticed the rodent on board mid-flight.
A spokesman for the company
said the aircraft would have to be fumigated before getting back into service.
An alternative plane was
used to fly the passengers on to London.
Two other incidents are
reported to have hit Air India flights in the past day.
On one occasion, a plane
from Mumbai collided with a catering van at the Newark airport in New Jersey,
US.
On another occasion the
pilot aborted take-off after a stray dog ran onto the runway in northern India.
