UK Security Increased Easter Travellers Affected

Travel organisation ABTA urged travellers to allow "adequate time" for extra security checks.
More than 400,000 people are expected to depart from Heathrow, 290,000 from Gatwick, 157,000 from Stansted and 81,000 from Luton.

VisitEngland says around six million Britons are planning an overnight stay somewhere within the UK this Easter.

As a result, the RAC said it was "inevitable" that popular motorways will be congested and warned drivers to expect "heavy traffic and jams on major routes".

Beefed-up security at airports, train stations and ports across the UK will lead to delays for Easter travellers.

The Government says the increase in security - which comes after the deadly attacks in Brussels on Tuesday - will disrupt journeys.

An estimated two million people are expected to travel abroad over the long weekend, with millions more passing through domestic transport hubs.

A Downing Street spokesman said: "Travellers over the Easter weekend may experience some limited delays to their journey and should check the advice of travel companies before starting their journeys."
