Hollywood actor Will Smith
and actress Jada Smith’s teenage daughter Willow has been named the new face of
high fashion brand Chanel.
The singer/actress, 15, was
front and centre at Chanel's Autumn/Winter 2016 presentation at Paris Fashion
Week on Tuesday, and the reason for her high-profile appearance quickly became
clear.
"(Chanel creative
director) Karl Lagerfeld has chosen Willow Smith as a new Chanel
ambassadress," label bosses announced in a simple statement.
Willow, who was accompanied
at the runway show by her mother, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, soon shared her
gratitude for the new position in a post on Instagram.com.
"Thank you Karl
Lagerfeld and the entire team at Chanel for expanding the perceptions of
'beauty' by picking me to be the new Chanel ambassador," Willow wrote
beside a photo of herself standing beside Lagerfeld at the show. "I am
honored."
Willow joins the likes of
actresses Diane Kruger, Kristen Stewart, and Keira Knightley, who are among the
French brand's other style ambassadors, while fellow celebrity offspring,
16-year-old Lily-Rose Depp recently featured in a Chanel eyewear campaign.
Meanwhile, Willow is
already in love with the new Chanel collection, which was also viewed by fellow
special guests Pharrell Williams and singer Halsey.
"You can just tell all
the clothes are just crafted with so much care, and you can tell that there's
so much soul put into how they are designed," she told WWD after the
presentation. "That's really the goal that I try to strive for, for
everything that I do. It's like, putting in so much thought and feeling inside
of the art that you make, so that everyone can feel it around you."
The teenager isn't the
first member of the Smith family to land such a big gig in the fashion
industry. Her older brother Jaden was recently unveiled as the new spokesmodel
for Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2016 womenswear collection.
