Speaking at a
media parley through, Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor said the President’s
utterance during maiden media chat was the reason the trial justice .John Tsoho
refused to grant his client and two other defendants bail.
Leader of the Indigenous
People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of
expressly making him a political prisoner with a series of statements made in
public.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor said: “The
moment the President pronounced to the world that Kanu cannot be granted bail
by any court, he made my client a political prisoner, and the media chat
inadvertently prejudiced the judge’s mind.”
Meanwhile, Justice Binta
Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed Tuesday, June 21, 2016 to
begin hearing of the N8.5 billion suit IPOB, filed against the Federal
Government for damages and compensation for its deceased and injured members it
claimed were “wickedly and brutally killed by combined forces of the Nigerian
Army, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigerian Police.”
