The Niger
Delta Avengers, launched another attack on a petroleum facility in the region. Declaring
readiness to accept federal government’s offer of dialogue, JNDLF in a
statement at the weekend listed its demands.
According to an early
tweet, by the militants on June 16, 2016, the NNPC pipeline situated in Oruk
Anam Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom, was blown at about 3:00am in the wee
hours of the day.
The Avengers through their
social media account on Twitter wrote: “At 4:00am @NDAvengers blow up NNPC
Pipeline in Oruk Anam Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom.”
This is coming barely few
days after the declared ceasefire with the Federal Government to allow for
talks on amicable ways to end the attacks on the nation’s oil installations.
The latest destruction of
the oil facility is coming seven days after the last attack which saw the Obi
Obi Brass Trunk line belonging to Agip ENI going up in flames.
The joint
revolutionary council of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), had
declared ceasefire. The group had earlier threatened to launch six missiles in
the region and to also shut Nigeria’s airspace.
Declaring
readiness to accept federal government’s offer of dialogue, JNDLF in a
statement at the weekend listed its demands.
The group had
demanded immediate release of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser
(NSA), reversal of the order to freeze the bank accounts of Government
Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, establishment of Matitime University in
Okerenkoko, Delta state, among others.
If the group
is connected with the Avengers is not known but it seems more is needed to end
the insurgency.
These people cannot hold the government to ransome they are criminals
