Indonesia Authorities
carried out four of the 14 planned executions of convicted drug offenders in
the early hours of Friday morning in the middle of heavy downpours.
Three Nigerian men –
Humphrey Jefferson (Ejike Eleweke), Seck Osmane, andMichael Titus Igweh, were
killed by firing squad at 12.45am on Friday (Indonesia time).
Indonesia’s Deputy Attorney
General Noor Rachamd said all three Nigerians were killed including a fourth
Indonesian man, Freddie Budiman.
"The executions were
for now conducted on four convicts on death row. This is not a fun job. For us,
this is really a sad job because it involves people’s lives. This was done not
in order to take lives but to stop evil intentions, and the evil act of drug
trafficking,” he said.
A total of six Nigerian men
were to be executed today. But it is not clear why the execution of the other
ten prisoners who had been expected to face the firing squad, did not proceed.
