The 83-year-old Hollywood actor
told The Sun: "I changed my name when all the stuff started with ISIS and
all that."
Sir Michael Caine has
revealed he has officially changed his name by deed poll after finding himself
getting delayed at airport security.
The actor had his real name
Maurice Micklewhite on his passport but found himself being constantly asked
about it.
Referring to his airport security
experiences, he explained: "He would say, 'Hi Michael Caine,' and suddenly
I'd be giving him a passport with a different name on it.
"I could stand there
for an hour. So I changed my name."
Sir Michael abandoned his
birth name in 1954 when his agent told him he had to find a new one quickly.
Speaking to his agent from
a telephone box in Leicester Square, London, he looked around for inspiration
and saw that Humphrey Bogart's The Caine Mutiny was being shown at the Odeon
and decided to change his name to 'Michael Caine'.
Sir Michael is currently
starring in Now You See Me 2 which is in cinemas now.
