Today In History: Nigeria’s First Experience With Ebola Virus Disease

Today, July 20th marks the second year the highly dreaded Ebola Virus was brought into Nigeria by Late Patrick Sawyerr, a situation which put citizens of the country in a state of panic at the time.
Following the encounter with Late Patrick Sawyerr, medical practitioners at First Consultants Hospital in Lagos together with the late Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh took immediate measures to stop the spread of the disease not caring about putting their lives on the line to save the people of Nigeria.

After the period of 93 days, the country was declared free from the virus by World Health Organisation (WHO). As we celebrate this day in history, we remember the brave roles played by Dr Ameyo Adadevoh, her team and the Government who together saved the country from a national disaster.

The movie 93 days tells the story of these men and women who risked their lives to save the citizens of Nigeria from the consequences of the outbreak of the highly dreaded Virus.

Stars in the movie include Danny Glover, Bimbo Akintola, Tim Reid, Somkele Iyamah Idhalama, Alastair Mackenzie, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Bimbo Manuel, Charles Okafor, Gideon Okeke, and other talented actors.

Directed by Steve Gukas, 93 Days was produced by Pemon Rami, Bolanle Austen-peters, Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas.
