DUBAI International Airport has been closed down and flights diverted after a plane crash landed on the runway and burst into flames.
Thick black smoke could be seen billowing across the runway at around 10.25am on Wednesday.
The blaze, on board an Emirates Airline Boeing 777 plane, is being tackled by emeregency services.
The plane was travelling from Thiruvananthapuram in India and was operating as flight EK521 with 275 passengers and crew on board.
A spokesman for Emirates Airlines said: “Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on August 3 at about 12.45pm local time.
“There were 275 passengers and crew on board. Our main priority now is the safety and well-being of all involved.
“We are extending full co-operation to authorities and emergency services managing the situation.
“We will update the Emirates website and social media channels as more information becomes available.”
The Dubai government media office said on its official Twitter account that the flight had arrived from India, adding that there were no reported casualties yet.
