Ogun Hospital Shut Over Death Of 2 Pregnant Women

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye, ordered the closure of Shepherd Clinic and Maternity, Ayo Ni Medical Centre and Dayo Maternity Home, all in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The Ogun Government on Thursday ordered the immediate closure of three hospitals for allegedly engaging in quackery and causing the death of two pregnant women during delivery.
Ipaye, represented by the Deputy Director, Hospital Services, Dr Solomon Shokunbi, said the two pregnant women bled to death because they were attended to by quack doctors.

He explained that one of the deceased was initially admitted at Dayo Maternity Home, before she was referred to Ayo Ni Medical Centre, where she later died after efforts by the former to deliver the baby proved abortive.

The commissioner decried the criminal and inhuman activities of the quack medical doctors and said government had since begun the registration and revalidation of all private hospitals in the state.

He said that no fewer than 43 private health facilities were shut for non-compliance with regulations.
Ipaye advised people in the state to heed government’s warning by not patronising quacks and unlicensed health facilities.

He also urged the public to report any activity of quack doctors or other medical personnel in their communities or call the hotline of the Department of Hospital Services on 07054368055. (NAN)
