Boko Haram Victim Forced Into Prostitution

According to International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) the victim of Boko Haram both women and their children in the Lake Chad Basin have been driven into prostitution.
Reports have it that ICRC made this known on Thursday, January 6 while explaining the effects of Boko Haram insurgency on millions of Nigerians driven from their homes and families.
According to ICRC, over 2.4 million people have been displaced across the swamp lands of Lake Chad, where the borders of Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger meet.

Simon Brooks, who is the head of ICRC’s delegation in Cameroon said: “It’s extraordinary to see a woman and her family and they have nothing other than what they have been given.”

“The children are clearly malnourished and it’s just hopeless,” he added.
Brook who also spoke on how some mothers were now into prostitution to make ends meet and cater for their family needs said: “When you don’t have the means to survive, you’ll go begging for it.

“It’s a loss of dignity when you’re having to resort to something like that just to keep your children alive – fraternising with people who have money.”

Meanwhile, there was indication yesterday, January 6 that Nigerian Army have rescued another one of the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014.
Reports claim that the name of the rescued girl was Rakiya Abubakar and she was carrying baby that appears to be hers.
