Ifeanyi Ejiofor who spoke
to journalists after Kanu’s court session on Tuesday, January 10, said claims
by the federal government that the group is unlawful is baseless.
A lawyer to the leader of
the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has debunked claims that the
group is an unlawful one.
Ejiofor said: "IPOB is
not an unlawful society, the goods imported duly came into the border and they
are not contraband items listed under thee gazette.”
He also said that
statements gathered from witnesses on Kanu’s criminal trial by then Department
of State Security has nothing to with charges levelled against his client.
He also said that it is
impossible for one person to commit a treasonable felony against a state.
The DSS had alleged that
Kanu committed treasonable felony, concealed goods in a container and
mismanaged an unlawful society.
But Ejiofor said: “If you
look at the statements made by witnesses it has nothing to do with any offence
of treasonable felony."
“They are talking about how
they arrested him and nothing more.
“So it had nothing to do
with offences of treasonable felony which he is being charged for, and we of
the view and firm view that, legally, those statements of the witnesses have
nothing to do with the charges.
At the point he was
arrested he was not found in possession of any form of arm or dangerous weapon.
He came in with two valid
passports, through the normal route… There is no way the proof of evidence
attached can sustain the charge against him,”
"And also recall, that
one person cannot commit and offence of treasonable felony,” Ejiofor added.

Stupid talk one person can commit any offense
