In a statement signed by the monarch’s Director, Media and Public Affairs, Adeola Oloko, the Olubadan said the warning became important after the former Iyaloja granted an interview where she referred to herself as the Iyaloja of the city.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji on Monday warned the deposed Iyaloja of Ibadan land, Mrs. Labake Lawal, to stop parading herself in the form of her former status else she will risk facing the wrath of law.

The monarch reiterated that there was no parallel office of Iyaloja in the city except the real office occupied by Alhaja Iswat Abiola Ameringun, whom he installed on March 20, 2017.
The statement said, “This clarification has become necessary following an interview Mrs. Labake Lawal granted to an Ibadan based radio station today (Monday), claiming the same title. There is no parallel Iyaloja in Ibadan, contrary to speculation in some quarters

“Following the appointment and installation of Ameringun as the new Iyaloja of Ibadan land on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the Olubadan Palace, the former occupant has ceased to be the market leader. If any other person parades herself as the Iyaloja, such person would be running the risk of impersonation, which is an offence punishable under the laws of the land.

“The only appointing authority on different categories of chiefs in Ibadan land, including Iyaloja and Babaloja, is the office of the Olubadan. The only person who has been conferred with the chieftaincy title of Iyaloja of Ibadan is Chief Ameringun following the recommendation of the Market Advisory Council, and she has accordingly been issued a certificate to that effect. This new certificate has invalidated any previous certificate issued to anyone.”

The Olubadan clarified that it was not true that only one chief removed the former Iyaloja ‘as she claimed in the interview’, adding that no High Chief of Ibadan was vested with the power to remove or install anyone.
