The clash came at a time when the traditional ruler of a town, the Iba of Kishi, Oba Moshood Arowoduye, was celebrating his 20th coronation anniversary.
About 25 people were allegedly injured when followers of the traditional Egungun religion and Islamic faithful clashed in Kishi town, Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State on Wednesday.
It is however not clear if the clash had anything to do with the celebration.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Abiodun Odude, told our correspondent that he was aware of the clash and that he had sent policemen from Ogbomoso division to ensure the return of peace to the area.
“I am aware of the clash between Egungun worshippers and Islamic religion followers in Kishi. Let me also confirm that no life was lost and no record of injury. The clash happened because of a misunderstanding. We are investigating cause of the clash but as we speak, normalcy has returned to the town.”
