The stadium had reportedly been converted into a s*x hotspot with fun-seekers thronging the complex at weekends to wind down.
The Ogun State Government on Wednesday ejected traders from the MKO Abiola Stadium  in Abeokuta.
Teenage prostitutes were said to have taken advantage of the development to do brisk trade, with men paying between N500 and N1,000 for  quickies in a dark corner in  the stadium.
The stadium was also said to have become a fertile ground for drug dealers to market their stuff.

The state government, obviously embarrassed at the developments, decided to act by ejecting shop owners and persons not involved in sports from the stadium.

Commissioner for Youths and Sports Afolabi Afuape, who supervised the ejection, said the traders were sent packing because  “the notice given to them expired today (Wednesday)”.

He said the state government was worried about the growing crime rate at the stadium, hence it decided to act.

“Government is very worried about the high rate of teenage prostitution, drug dealing and noise pollution on the premises,” spokesman for the sports ministry Akinbobola Adeniyi quoted Afuape as saying.

“Even as the state government regrets any inconvenience the action might have caused those having their legitimate businesses  there,  I want to say that the decision taken is in the interest of the good people of Ogun State.”
The commissioner added that the ministry would no longer accommodate any non-sporting activities  in the four stadiums owned by the state.
