The session was cut short
as Members of Parliament started fighting and throwing chairs at one another.
The Ugandan parliament was
on Tuesday thrown into a rowdy session as members discussed various issues
affecting the country, especially the age-limit debate that had been on for a
while.
According to kfm.co.ug, the
Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, said the Order Paper had been amended to include the
controversial motion to amend the age limit of presidential candidates.
Having spoken about the
amendment, a parliamentarian alleged that a member of the House had a weapon,
and that the place was not safe for anyone, including the Speaker. But the
Speaker said she could not adjourn the proceedings based on mere allegation.
However, shortly after the
speaker’s statement, legislators began shouting at one another and, at some
point, started throwing chairs around while the Speaker looked on. The
disruption halted proceedings for about 20 minutes.
