A massive number of women
and youths in Imo state on Monday, October 22, vented their anger towards Adams
Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), alleging
that he was responsible for the unfavourable primaries of the party in the
state.
The angry crowd accused
Oshimhole of having exchanged four names of candidates who won the election
supervised by the Ibrahim Agbabiaka-led electoral committee with that of the
dissolved Ahmed Gulak committee, Daily Trust reports.
Marching through Owerri,
the state capital, the protesters barricaded major roads, claiming that the
state was going through difficult times politically because of what they
described as Oshiomhole’s impunity and high handedness.
As their key promise, the
protesters vowed not to remain silent and watch him destroy APC in the state.
Lending his supports to the
protesters' position, Ugochi Okoro, the south-east leader of Buhari Campaign
Organisation, said that most members presently in the party left their various
parties for exact reason of arbitrariness and lack of regard for due process,
as currently bring witnessed in APC.
Okoro said: “Oshiomhole
should go back to his cocoon, we would not allow him to destroy APC, this is
the party where our governor was called all manner of names, today same people
wants to come and hijack the party, we say no!
“Oshiomhole should leave
the party for us, Okorocha is our leader and we still standby our president for
second term, Imo youths will not stop supporting Ugwumba Uche Nwosu and Buhari,
likewise we the the women.”
Earlier, Charles Amadi, the
south-east secretary for Buhari campaign organisation, called on the president
to call Oshiomhole to order, adding that his conducts are capable of
destabilising the party.
Daniel Nwafor, the party's
state chairman, speaking to journalists about the development said that he
tried to stop the protesters but was overwhelmed by them.
Nwafor appealed to the
National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to, as a matter of urgency, look
into the demands of the angry protesters.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported
that there were indications that some members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s
cabinet and a host of governors were plotting against Oshiomhole.
Disturbed by their
inability to have their way in the recent party primaries, 15 APC governors,
alongside their allies in the presidency are reportedly plotting Oshiomhole's
ouster as soon as possible and replaced with someone more amenable to their
demands and interests.
