"We robbed our boss because he owed us salaries" - Security guards confess

Following their arrest by the Lagos state Police Command for allegedly robbing a lawyer, two security guards, Kingsley Asuquo, 19, and Isaac Edet, 18, have confessed to committing the crime because their salaries were delayed.
The victim, Prof Joseph Mbadugha, was allegedly attacked while working at his office on Johnvic Igbanogo Street, in the Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Mbadugha hired the guards from Strongcity Security Services.

In a statement released on Monday, October 22, the public relations officer of the police command, CSP Chike Oti, said operatives were mobilized to rescue Mbadugha and arrest the suspects.

He added that during interrogation, the suspects confessed that they connived with others at large to rob the victim for not paying their salaries as and when due.

He said: “The command had on Saturday, October 13, 2018, around 5.30pm, received information from a credible source that some bandits held one Joseph Mbadugha hostage in his office at JohnVic Igbanogo Street, Lekki Phase One, Lagos, and that the armed men wore Strongcity Security Services uniform.

“Based on the information, operatives from the Maroko Police Station and F-SARS Ikeja, jointly mobilised to the scene. On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums ran in different directions to avoid being arrested. But one of them, who gave his name as Isaac Edet, was nabbed at the scene.

“After interrogation, he led detectives to arrest his partner in crime, one Kingsley Asuquo. Interestingly, both suspects are workers of Strongcity Security Services.

“They claimed that the victim did not pay their salaries as and when due, hence they planned with others at large to rob and even kill him if necessary.

“They succeeded in dispossessing the victim of a bag containing a laptop, a cash sum of N40,000, three cheque booklets, one iPhone 6. All these items were recovered from the suspects in the course of investigation.”

The spokesman further disclosed that the head of the command’s intelligence unit has been directed by the Lagos state police commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, to fish out the members of the gang who fled.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos state Police Command arrested a suspected robber identified as Rilwan Wasiu, while reportedly beating up his girlfriend under the Adeniji Adele Bridge.

According to the police, some officers who were on patrol around 10pm had been drawn to the noise of the scuffle between the 20-year-old and his lover, when he was caught.
