Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano has been demanded by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to continue with the probe of former governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
Ganduje had said that he would probe his predecessor, Kwankwaso, over the misappropriation of over multi-billion naira meant for series of 5 kilometre road projects in 44 local governments in the state, Daily Trust reports.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate, who was the commissioner of works during Kwankwaso’s tenure in the state, said that he was quite taken aback that Ganduje, who was the deputy governor and also the commissioner for local government during the former governor’s tenure would even think of making an investigation into a project he was part of.

He said: “I was the commissioner of works and housing then (Kwankwaso’s tenure); my ministry ought to have been in charge of that project but Ganduje claimed it; and it was his office that gave out the contracts and paid the contractors mobilization up to about 40 per cent.

“It was when we discovered that after several months, virtually in all the sites of the project not up to 5 per cent of work was achieved that Kwankwaso set up an investigation committee which I chaired to look at the reasons behind the delay. The report is with us and at that time we also disseminated it to most of the contractors.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Ganduje had sued an online platform, Daily Nigerian and its publisher, Jafaar Jafaar, over some video clips recently released by the medium alleging him of collecting bribe from contractors.

The counsel to the governor, Nuradeen A. Ayagi, in a writ of summons tendered before the high court, demanded the defendants to file an appearance before 14 days. The writ was dated Tuesday, November 13, 2018.
