The Inspector-General of
Police, Ibrahim Idris, has redeployed the hardworking and effective Lagos State
Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal.
Sources said Edgal had been
directed to take charge of the
Explosives and Ordnance
Disposal Unit at the Force headquarters, Abuja.
On Sunday
that CP Kayode Egbetokun had been directed to take over from Edgal as acting
police commissioner in the state.
It could not be immediately
ascertained if Egbetokun would be made the substantive CP.
The new acting Lagos Police
boss was the CP in charge of Explosives and Ordnance Unit.
He also supervised the Osun
governorship election in Ikire town. He's reportedly the CSO to APC national
leader, Bola Tinubu when he was Lagos state governor.
A source said, “The redeployment
of Egbetokun to Lagos was part of the police operational strategies ahead of
the 2019 general elections. Recall that a number of senior police officers,
including command Commissioners of Police had been redeployed in the past few
weeks.”
Findings indicate that the
police leadership had in the past weeks redeployed the CPs in Zamfara, Edo,
Ekiti, Imo and Bauchi commands.
This is coming against the
backdrop of the expected retirement of the IG who would clock 60 years on
Tuesday.
CP Edgal is a fine officer,
but the politics of Lagos is not his thing.
