The governor of Ogun state,
Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, February 11, took time to beg aggrieved members of
the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state not to disgrace him before
President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the APC's
presidential rally in the state which turned violent, Amosun told the party
members not to go violent especially with their father (President Buhari)
present at the event.
Amosun's appeal which was
aired on national television, followed an outburst by some party members at the
rally after the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole was invited to the
podium for his speech.
As Oshiomhole began, some
of the aggrieved members began throwing stones at his director and that of the
president.who was guarded by a security operative in mufti.
Speaking to the people in
Yourba dialect, Amosun said: “I beg you in the name of God. This is what they
want to happen. Please don’t disgrace me here."
“Our father is here, please
don’t disgrace me. I beg you in the name of God, please don’t disgrace me
before our father… We have laboured this hard. I am appealing to you. Please
leave. I beg you in the name of God, please leave. I beg you. I am
begging," Amosun continued.
Amid the violence, the
party chairman quickly handed the APC flag to Abiodun.
Amosun had also said, “ We
have accepted President Muhammadu Buhari as our father. In the interest of love
and the respect we have for Mr President, let us swallow our pride and subdue
our anger. Don’t let them go back with an erroneous impression that we are not
for Buhari.
“We are not just supporting
Buhari because he is our father, but, because of his performance. Look at what
he has done for the entire nation, he is someone with integrity. He said he
would fix all our roads and infrastructure. He has done a lot for us. He has
kept all his promises. They are looters and that is why they are against Buhari.
This is about all of us," he added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng
previously reported that pandemonium broke out at the ongoing campaign rally of
the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta.
