Many shared their opinion on social media concerning the AMVCA best dressed award. Blogger Noble
Igwe has reacted to the best dressed awards which were given on Sunday at the
just-concluded Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards, AMVCA.
The awards
were won by BBNaija reality TV stars, Mercy Eke (female category) and Mike
Edwards (Male category).
On Twitter, Noble Igwe criticized the category with claims that award shows with
such might have to see their events taken over by social media personalities instead
of real industry players.
“Unpopular
Opinion: With the introduction of the best dressed in the awards, the real
industry players are going to stay away from the awards and you’d have a room
full of social media personalities. There are so many fashion events already,
gather movie players”, Noble Igwe tweeted.
TV host,
Vimbai Mutinhiri reacted to his post:” Imagine if Meryl Streep and Robert De
Niro had to sit through a best dressed voting process on a night meant to focus
on their sweat and that of those who make things come together Smiling face
with open mouth and cold sweat with Paris Hilton and Love and Hip Hop cast
presenting awards”.

carpet fashion event. Film has now become secondary at a film event. Stylists
are now dragging each other on social media after a film awards”.

The
introduction of the best dressed in the awards is a good thing, it is an award
that gives anyone interested a chance to compete, it is done in such a way,
that only those interested, will go for it.
“The real industry
player as you put it, cannot be driven away from d event just because of that,
if they don’t feel like competing with d social media personalities as u called
them, all they’ve to do is focus on d award proper and not go to d photo booth
specially made 4 best dressed”.

Leave that to the fashion police. I love the fashion. But it’s film award. Can
we at least talk about the films that were nominated and won? So much focus on
everything else but the films”
