The first pictures of
deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has been posted by Governor Nasir
El-Rufai from Awe, where the Emir has been kept captive of the Nigerian Police
and the Department of State Services since Monday.
El-Rufai, a friend of the
emir, had announced earlier today he was visiting with the emir, who he still
calls His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, an indication that he disagreed with the
dethronement by fellow APC governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
In one of the photos, the
Kaduna governor is seeing paying royal courtesies to Sanusi, by bowing to him,
the way it is normally done to the majesty.
Emir Sanusi is certainly
amused by el-Rufai’s gesture
“Malam Nasir is in Awe with
HH Muhammadu Sanusi II”, the photo caption read.
A Federal High Court in
Abuja ordered Sanusi’s release by his abductors, following an expatriate motion
filed by his lawyers.
The Attorney General of
Kano State had said the government only dethroned Sanusi, and did not order his
banishment to either Loko or Awe, which means the Police and DSS carried out
unauthorised actions.
In Kaduna, El-Rufai has
demonstrated his opposition to Ganduje’s action by giving the intellectual Emir
important positions in the state. He first named Sanusi as the vice chairman of
the Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency(KADIPA). A day after he named him the
chancellor of the Kaduna State University (KASU).
