Gbajabiamila
was at the scene of the explosion and was welcomed by a huge crowd.
Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Monday accused the Lagos and
Federal Governments of negligence in the aftermath of the Abule Ado explosion,
in Lagos, which killed about 20 people.
Addressing
the residents and victims of the explosion, the speaker commiserated with them,
saying this was not the time for finger pointing but to make assessments.
In his words,
“There are lessons to be learnt and we must tell each other the truth and from
all that I have heard, I have spoken to GMD of NNPC, LASEMA and several
eyewitness accounts.
“There is a
lot of negligence both from the government, the security and everybody but this
is not time for finger pointing but the time to assess, look at the mistakes we
have made, look at what we have done wrong and look at the damages.
“The governor
is distraught, the people are distraught. I heard the governor has set up a
committee to look into the causes, the effect and the way to address it.”
Gbajabiamila
also assured the victims that both the State and Federal Governments were
already making efforts to ascertain the cause of the incident and address the
effects.
“I want to
assure you that the Lagos State Government is not going to abandon you and the
Federal Government,” he said.
