The London Fire Brigade declared a major incident in response to "a huge surge" of fires across London. Fires have ripped through lands, roads, and businesses across south London during the extreme heatwave according to report.
Metropolitan
authority warned of extreme heat as parts of the UK were given a red weather
warning for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures had risen to 40 degrees, marking
record-breaking numbers, according to Met Office.
A string
of incidents was seen in Bexleyheath, Dartford, Croydon, Erith, Eltham,
Orpington, and Wandsworth.

A grass
fire that spread to the size of three football pitches has damaged open land in
Bexleyheath.
The fire
broke out in Halcot Avenue at 3.34pm on Monday.
Around
three hectares of grass, trees, and scrubland were damaged by the fire.
There were
no reports of any injuries.
The cause
of the fire is still under investigation.

broke out in Ray Lamb Way yesterday, in Erith Grassland fire
(July 19) shortly after 6.30pm.
Twenty
fire engines and around 125 firefighters were called to the blaze.
