All lanes are now open on the A2 eastbound but lane one on the Darenth Interchange remains closed. Traffic was brought to a standstill this afternoon after a van burst into flames on the A2 near Dartford.
The
vehicle was parked up on the side of the road on the A2 eastbound between the
M25 and Bluewater.
The large
roadside fire blocked the A2 and caused four miles of congestion in the area.
Three fire
engines were sent to the blaze from Kent Fire and Rescue service.
Crews used
a hose reel jets to extinguish the fire which was brought under control by
12.53pm.
No
injuries have been reported and the cause of the van blaze is not known at this
stage.
A
spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was
called at 11.51am to reports of a van alight on the A2 in Dartford.
“Three
fire engines were sent to the scene and crews wore breathing apparatus while
using hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze.
“No
injuries were reported and the cause is not yet known.
“Stop
time: 12.53pm.”
