Huge Explosion At Petrol Station : Ten Confirm Dead

 

A huge explosion at a petrol station in County Donegal, confirmed ten people dead. On Friday afternoon the explosion happened at an Applegreen service station in the village of Creeslough. 

Four men, three women, a teenage boy and girl, and a young girl, gardaí (Irish police) were killed. 

Eight people were also taken to hospital after the blast. Gardaí said their information pointed towards a tragic accident at this point. 

The blast destroyed the building and a section of an apartment building. 

Emergency services held a joint press conference on Saturday afternoon and held a moment of silence in memory of those killed. 

Gardaí said they did not expect any further fatalities at this time. 

Garda Supt David Kelly described the explosion as a tragedy for the community which has left families devastated. 

He paid tribute to those killed in the incident and also praised emergency services who assisted them from Donegal and Northern Ireland. 

"That is what it is to be in Donegal, we look out for each other," he said. 

"Our information at this point in time is pointing towards a tragic accident."
