United state President Trump and Vladimir Putin, are preparing to meet next week, although no official date has been set, but week starting of the 11th of August is looking like a possibility.
United
Arab of Emirates is likely to be as a possible place to host the meeting,
following a meeting with UAE president Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan .
The
purpose is to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine, the announcement of the
potential meeting came on the eve of the deadline Trump set for Russia to show
signs of ending the war.
However,
Russian officials sidestepped questions about Ukrainian president Volodymyr
Zelensky being involved in the summit, something that Trump had said he was
open to.
The
meeting comes as Trump's patience with Putin appears to be running out. He
entered office promising to bring the war to an end but has so far been unable
to make any progress, despite overtures to Moscow.
Trump had
promised to introduce further sanctions and tariffs on Russia if they did not
take action by the deadline and went further by stating that he would impose
secondary tariffs on nations importing Russian goods. n Wednesday, Trump signed an
executive order to place an additional 25% tariff on India for its purchases of
Russian oil.
Despite
numerous waves of diplomatic talks between Russia and the US, the coming summit
will be the first meeting between the leaders of the two countries since Putin
met with Joe Biden in 2021, before the outbreak of the war.
Trump has
said his ultimate aim is to bring the war in Ukraine to an end, but Putin's
position is less clearly apparent.
European
leaders have accused Putin of playing for time, while Trump himself has
expressed frustration at the cordial conversations he has with the Russian
president only to see hours later news about a further bombardment of Ukraine.
