A bomb
described as Unexploded Ordinance (UXO) at a scrap dump has killed three
persons yesterday in Eziorsu Community, Oguta Council of Imo State.
The
incidence which took place around 2pm was confirmed by the Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Ikeokwu, who gave the names of the victims as
Elvis Ukado, Kasiemobi Uzoma and Justice Adiemea.
He
did not give details.
“Three
people killed in a scrap dump today, caused by Unexploded Ordinance,” he simply
stated in a message.
The
Commissioner of Police (CP), Rabiu Ladodo, and the Deputy Commissioner of
Police (DCP), Operations, Kene Onwunemelie, with a team of the squad visited
the scene.
Ikeokwu
disclosed that the incident occurred about 2.10pm as he warned the public to be
wary of such, advising prompt report of suspected metal UXOs, “for possible
examination, evacuation and destruction.”
Last
year, a suspected bomb factory was uncovered in Iddo, Okpella, after one of the
explosives exploded. One of the suspected bomb makers was killed in the
explosion. One of the victim’s legs was also chopped off by the blast.
The
building where the suspected bombs were manufactured is a three- bedroom
apartment which the villagers said was occupied by some men from Kogi State.
A
source in the village said youths in the area mobilised and nabbed some
occupants in the building. One of the occupants, who reportedly escaped with a
car loaded with prepared explosives, arms and ammunitions, abandoned the
vehicle along a bush path and fled.
