Ohanaeze
Ndigbo has vowed not to bow to the pressure from the Miyetti Allah Cattle
Breeders Association of Nigeria by not surrendering any portion of land for
cattle breeding.
They
also revealed that they are waiting for the threat from Miyetti Allah to
forcefully occupy Igbo land.
This
was after a quote was attributed to MACBAN’s leader, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki,
threatening g mayhem for the refusal of the region’s governors to give land to
the association for cattle rearing.
Siddiki
was quoted as saying that since the governors were ‘stubborn’ and refused to
give them land, “it will be taken forcibly, while the entire Southeast will be
raided and taken over by herdsmen.”
But
President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, in a statement issued
after its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Enugu, cautioned Ndigbo
to be vigilant and in readiness for the threat.
“Await
our next directives after consultation with our political and religious
leaders, legislators, traditional rulers, town unions and affiliate
organisations,” Nwodo told Ndigbo.
He
further stated that the increasing rate of Kidnappings, illegal mining and
banditry are an indication of a collapse of national security.
