A court has issued a bench
warrant for the arrest of the former director-general of the National
Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayodele Oke, and his wife, Folashade.
According to NAN, the
arrest warrant was issued in connection with the $43,449,947, £27,800 and
N23,218,000 recovered from a luxury apartment in Ikoyi, which was linked to the
duo.
Recall that Legit.ng
previously reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
disclosed that it was seeking a bench warrant against Oke and his wife.
The couple’s arraignment
failed to hold again as the EFCC said it was yet to serve the charges on both
individuals.
Counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi
Oyedepo on Wednesday, February 6, informed Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke that he
had the intention of making an oral application, seeking the issuance of a
bench warrant against the sacked NIA DG and his wife for their arrest.
This was because the
commission was finding it difficult to secure the attendance of the two
defendants in court.
